Construction of New Waiapu Diocese Office
Building site alongside the Cathedral
The construction work adjacent to the Cathedral is to re-develop the site at 21 Hastings Street (formerly The Brazen Head pub) to house the offices of the Waiapu Anglican Centre.
The plans include retaining the original Art Deco façade and building a an environmentally-friendly building behind this, opening into the park. The Diocese Management team has been working with Napier City Council and Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga to ensure that the heritage value of the building is preserved. The new building will be two storeys, occupying 724 sqm and constructed in a style in keeping with the character of neighbouring properties.
The demolition phase is almost complete and construction of the new building will begin around May, with handover anticipated in April 2024.
