Going to church was an essential part of people’s social and spiritual life in the 1930’s.
Swing into church this Art Deco Festival wearing your Sunday best (and a smart hat!) for a service featuring a jazz Mass setting by local Hawke’s Bay composer Bill Bennett.
Then pop back in the afternoon, while still wearing your Sunday best, to join in a less formal event. ‘A Swing and a Prayer’ remembers the events of 1931 with jazz styled music, gospel spirituals and memories.
All ages/ $ FREE although an offering or koha would be appreciated
