Waiapu Cathedral Choir presents the traditional service of Nine Lessons and Carols on Sunday 21 December from 7pm.

Nine Lessons & Carols is a very special Waiapu Cathedral tradition with our superb choir and organ.  

Hear the story of the promise of the Messiah and the birth of Jesus in nine short readings (lessons) interspersed with carols and anthems from the choir, and join in singing some well-known carols.

Nine Lessons and Carols first began in England on Christmas Eve 1918 when the choir at Kings College, Cambridge created the new style of service  to cheer people after the war.  The service was first broadcasted by the BBC at Christmas 1928, a radio tradition that continues to this day.
