Good Friday, Vigil & Easter Services
18 – 20 April
From the hoped-for entry into Jerusalem celebrated at Palm Sunday, followed by Jesus’ arrest, trial and death during Holy Week, to the discovery of his resurrection by his friends on Easter Sunday, Holy Week is a special time for the Christian church and everyone who wants to understand the life and mission of Jesus Christ.
On Good Friday, 18 April, join us at Waiapu Cathedral in Napier city for our very special services:
– all ages service at 10am with reflections and hymns.
– a longer service from 12 noon to 3pm when we reflect on the death and suffering of Jesus. The choir and Cathedral Strings will perform The Last Words of Christ by Michael Myrick, interspersed with hymns, readings and times of silent reflection. Please note that people are welcome to come and go as they need to.
On Holy Saturday, 19 April join the Vigil at 6pm for the lighting of the new fire. This is a lovely service where we vanquish the despair and darkness of the previous day by bringing candles and light back into the cathedral.
On Easter Day, Sunday 20 April join us to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ with our joyful services:
– a traditional communion service at 8am with hymns
– a choral Eucharist at 10am with Choir & the Cathedral Strings leading in an uplifting Mozart Mass.
