Organ Recital by Hans U. Hielscher

Experience the talent and musicianship of leading German organist Hans Uwe Hielscher.  We look forward to this concert as Hans is known for both more contemporary music as well as the classical organ repertoire.

Hans is the organist at the Marktkirche in Wiesbaden (Lutheran Cathedral of Nassau) in Germany where he has played since 1979.  He has presented nearly 4,000 organ recitals around the globe and his concert tours have taken him to all European countries, the United States (with 73 U.S. tours), Bahamas, Israel, Iceland, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore and Bangkok.  

Hans has been featured on radio and TV broadcasts, made 22 CD recordings on various international labels and is the author of the books Alexandre Guilmant – Life and Work, Famous Organs in the U.S.A., and The Organ of Wiesbaden Marktkirche.  Hans is also a published composer of some 60 works for organ. 

Hans has been honoured by the French government in Paris for his worldwide engagement of French organ music and nominated Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in 1985.  In 2019, the Hessian Ministry for Science and Art in the Capital City of Wiesbaden awarded him the Certificate of Honour for Art and Culture.

The Waiapu Cathedral organ is one of the finest church organs in New Zealand and one of the largest, featuring more than 3700 pipes.
