Christmas Eve Midnight Mass, 11pm 24 December

22 December 2022

Welcome in Christmas Day at the traditional midnight service.

The Christmas Eve Midnight Mass at Waiapu Cathedral is a special candlelit vigil service.  The choir will sing the Missa Carolae (2004) by James Whitbourn which is a fusion of Christmas traditions, blending well-known carols with the text of the mass in Latin.  The choir will be accompanied by the Cathedral Strings, a chamber group that play regularly in cathedral services.

The midnight mass service has been held since ancient times and churches around the world worship with Holy Eucharist, readings, music, and a Christmas message as we wait in joyful hope for the coming of Jesus.

If you can’t be at church on Christmas Day, then this is a lovely and very special service to attend.  Some people have the tradition of enjoying family meal together before coming to this late night service.
