Waiapu Cathedral welcomes visitors to join our friendly congregation for our special Winter Art Deco Festival service.  

Put on your Sunday Best and come to the cathedral on Sunday 20 July.  We join in the resurrection spirit of the festival with a special choral jazz Mass written by local composer Bill Bennett.

Our service follows the modern service format but the hymns are traditional and familiar tunes sung in the 1930s, accompanied by the mighty cathedral organ, and our Cathedral Choir.  

In 1931 the earthquake demolished the previous cathedral almost completely, with the loss of two lives.  The current cathedral was built on the same site and opened in the 1960s, although worship continued on the site through the rebuild.  Find out more about the cathedral here.
