Hawke’s Bay’s Civic Commemoration Service at Waiapu Cathedral in Napier

A civic service of Commemoration and Thanksgiving for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was held at Waiapu Cathedral, Browning St, Napier on Monday 26 September at 4pm.

Napier Mayor Kirsten Wise and Hastings Mayor Sandra Hazelhurst both spoke of memories of the Queen’s visits to Hawke’s Bay.  Ngahiwi Pomona representing Ngati Kahungunu gave a short address in te reo recognising the Queen’s great service.

As well as the Cathedral Choir who sang the Nunc Dimitis to open the service and an anthem, Hukarere Girls’ Colleage sang the Hukarere setting of the Lord’s Prayer – Te Inoi a te Ariki.  

The Bishop of Waiapu gave the address to a congregation which included regional and community leaders.

The hymns were accompanied by the Cathedral organ and Napier Tech Brass band.
