Hosting an evening Iftar meal for our Muslim neighbours
thursday 28 April 2022
On Sunday 24 April, the Napier Muslim community was welcomed into the Waiapu Cathedral for the Iftar meal.
Bishop Andrew Hedge and the Cathedral parish welcomed and hosted several Muslim families for the Iftar meal which breaks the fast after sunset during Ramadan. Ramadan runs this year from 1 April to 2 May.
Bishop Andrew and Mr Syed Khurram Iqbal Naqvi, the President of the Pakistan Association of New Zealand, spoke as part of the welcome. Several families came and appreciated the hospitality inside the Cathedral, and it was an opportunity to share a meal and conversation. The Cathedral parishioners provided a meal of lamb, rice and salads, followed by baclava and cake.
Our thanks to everyone who organised this warm, family occasion, to all the families who came and all those who contributed to the delicious meal.
