Invitation to Waiapu Cathedral Choir Open Day
monday 1 august 2022
Find out more about Waiapu Cathedral Choir on Sunday 11 September, 2pm
We live in a singing community in Hawke’s Bay – we have choirs of all sizes and styles, bands, musical theatre groups, opera trainees with PPV, and singers who make music in many genres – rock, soul, folk, pop, indie, world music, te reo Māori, Indian, Samoan, Irish …. the list goes on…. plus there’s church music!
We want to invite everyone who enjoys singing – no matter what your style – to meet the Waiapu Cathedral Choir at afternoon tea and then have an opportunity to sing.
You may have seen the choir processing into the cathedral on a Sunday morning in our cassocks and surplices and thought we look a bit odd! It’s all part of the tradition of a cathedral and looks formal, but what you don’t see is the fun we have making music together and experiencing the wonderful music of some of the world’s greatest composers.
If you would like to sing with us at the Open Day, it helps if you can read music, but you can also just give it a go (some of the ancient chants involve only a few notes up and down, so not too difficult!). And if you just want to come and just listen, you are very welcome to.
Anthony Tattersall, our Cathedral Musical Director, and the choir will give everyone a warm welcome at 2pm on Sunday 11 September and let you share in the fun and wonder of music making!
You might also like to stay for the traditional choral Evensong later in the afternoon which is a spiritual and meditative service.
We’d love to meet you – please contact email@example.com or phone 835 8824 or 021 754 161 to let us know you’re coming.
