Choral Sing-in Success!
Wednesday 20 July 2022
Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves singing together!
The Waiapu Cathedral’s annual Sing-in was a success again on Saturday 16 July. Singers travelled from as far afield as Wellington, Taupō and Waipukurau to join with Napier and Hastings singers to rehearse and perform Vivaldi’s Gloria, plus anthems by Haydn, Handel and Brahms.
They were warmly welcomed to the rehearsal by Dean Di Woods and led by Cathedral Music Director Anthony Tattersall through the rehearsal. Michael Fletcher came from Wellington again to accompany the choir on the cathedral’s fine organ.
Although about 30 people were unable to participate due to covid and other winter ills, the smaller than usual choir was well-balanced – even with a remarkably good turnout of tenors, including a young school student.
Singers enjoyed a sociable afternoon tea outdoors (with masks off to get some air) before performing in concert for a small audience, accompanied by the organist and Cathedral Strings.
We look forward to making music together next year!
